Gone are those days when one had to be conscientious throughout the writing practice, and make sure he did not commit any grammatical mistakes . Today, especially during the time when business schools gauge vigor for upper-level management position, chiefly on the basis of the ’sentence construction’, with MS Office as their writing slate plus grammar regulator , people do not worry about “primitive ” concerns like spelling mistakes and sentence construction. Accurate grammar has its state for its own sake. At the nature of successful management team lie effective communication. Important portions of grammar seem necessary to schools. Capacity and efficiency comes through vocation and that those who try to generalize instead, won’t be able to attempt.
For illustration, the following sentence might entice you to generalize and trap you into distinguishing the dissimilarities between wording a vague phrase or reading a multi-clause 45 words long sentence for five times just to see what ’sounds right’. The correct way would be to detect the errors, and fix only those, the keys of which you already know, with may be rare worrying about the other errors.
Let us take the following example. “Unlike water, which is complimentary, all commuters will have to pay for the beverages during the transoceanic flight.” A. Unlike water, which is complimentary… B. Besides water, which is offered free of charge… C. Unless the drink is ‘water’, which is complementary… D. Not like water, which is offered free of charge… E. With ‘water’ being the only exception…
Here, it is not paid notice to whether you use “complimentary” or “free of charge” or “unlike” or “besides”; but the “agreement of modifiers” is the main point of analysis. Options A, B, D, and E transform “passengers” into “waters”, which makes no sense; but option C uses “Unless the drink is ‘water’” as an autonomous clause and not as a modifier.
